It’s no secret that I love a good margarita.

Lime.

On the rocks.

With salt.

No exceptions.

Thankyouverymuch.

They’re tart, they’re just a little sweet, and they’re beyond refreshing. . . what’s not to love?

The other day, I was whipping up a homemade margarita for Trevor and I and I realized that I didn’t have a really good, classic, easy margarita recipe here on SMTY.

Say. Whaaaa?!

I’ve got 5 Ingredient Margs – 4 WaysStrawberry Jalapeno Margarita. A Mango Habanero Margarita. A Devil’s Margarita. A Jalapeno Margarita w/ Jalapeno Infused Tequila. . . .

[obviously I see the pattern that I’m obsessed with sweet and spicy margaritas]

but there was no classic margarita to be found.

Well, today, all things have changed for the better.

How do you make a homemade margarita?

  • Tequila
  • Lime/lemon/orange juice
  • Simple syrup/agave

Mix above together over ice and BOOM. Homemade margarita.

Oh, and PSST – I almost forgot, Trevor and I went LIVE on Facebook and made a fun little video that you can see below! We’re hoping to make this a regular thing, so just head to Show Me the Yummy on Facebook and we’ll see you there!

A classic, Easy Margarita Recipe. 5 ingredients: tequila, simple syrup (or agave), lime, lemon, and orange juice! A simply perfect and refreshing cocktail! showmetheyummy.com #margarita #limemargarita

Funnily enough, this recipe came to be, because I had run out of lime juice, but wanted to make a margarita.

I mean, I had a little lime juice, but not enough to make a pitcher and I neeeeeeeded to make a pitcher.

What to do? What to do?

How do you make a pitcher of margaritas?

Well, I did have lemon and orange juice.

I combined the lime juice with the lemon and orange, added tequila, and a teeny bit of simple syrup and the BEST classic, easy margarita recipe was born.

For a pitcher, you’ll need:

  • 16 oz tequila
  • 4 oz lime juice
  • 4 oz lemon juice
  • 4 oz orange juice
  • 4-8 oz simple syrup or agave

That being said, the best part about this recipe is that it’s totally customizable!

Like your margaritas a little sweeter? Add more simple syrup.

Don’t have or want to make simple syrup? Use agave!

How do you make a top shelf margarita?

You could even get fancy and use a nicer tequila and add a splash of Grand Marnier. Boom! Top shelf margaritas for all!

Whatever you do, just promise me you’ll use lime, lemon, AND orange juice.

I’m telling you, it’s life changing.

A classic, Easy Margarita Recipe. 5 ingredients: tequila, simple syrup (or agave), lime, lemon, and orange juice! A simply perfect and refreshing cocktail! showmetheyummy.com #margarita #limemargarita Make enough for a crowd or scale it down and just serve one!

How do you make a single serving margarita?

For a single margarita, you’ll need:

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 1 1/2 oz juice (I just squeezed a lemon, a lime, and an orange into a container, mixed it up and measured out 1 1/2 oz)
  • 1/2 – 1 oz simple syrup or agave

Sooooo easy.

Also. Serve these up in these mason jars with a salted rim, because mason jars are still cool and I think they’re adorable!

So. I know it’s only Wednesday, but make this Easy Margarita Recipe for Thirsty Thursday, play some music, sit outside and just. . .

These Champagne Cocktails are made FOUR ways: Raspberry Royale, Mimosa, Poinsettia, and Classic — the perfect addition to your New Year’s Eve party!

Graphic with four champagne cocktails

While these champagne cocktails are absolutely PERFECT for New Years Eve, I’m the kinda girl who believes there’s always a reason to celebrate. 😉 Whether, it’s a holiday or a random Friday summer evening . . . bring on the champs!

What is a champagne cocktail?

A classic champagne cocktail is a beverage made with sugar, bitters, champagne, brandy, and garnished with a maraschino cherry.

Today, we’re mixing it up with FOUR different versions:

  1. Raspberry Royale
  2. Mimosa
  3. Poinsettia
  4. Classic

They’re all easy to make, festive, and bubbly!

Ingredients

All four of these champagne cocktail variations include champagne, but here are the other ingredients you’ll need if you’re making all four!

  • Champagne – the MVP. See: what champagne to use for our recommendations.
  • Fruit Juice – used for the mimosa and the poinsettia. Use whatever you have on hand. Try grape juice, cranberry, orange, raspberry lemonade, etc.
  • Cointreau – used for the poinsettia. An orange-flavored triple sec liqueur that pairs beautifully with cranberry juice.
  • Angostura Bitters – a concentrated bitters flavored with herbs and spices. This is what gives the classic champagne cocktail it’s signature flavor.
  • Chambord – a sweet, rich raspberry liqueur used for the raspberry royale variation.
  • Granulated Sugar – used to sweeten the classic version.

Raspberry royale cocktail with two raspberries

Champagne cocktail variations

  • Raspberry Royale – Chambord (a raspberry liqueur) mixed with champagne.
  • Mimosa – a fruit juice of your choice (grape, cranberry, orange, raspberry lemonade) mixed with champagne.
  • Poinsettia – Cointreau (orange-flavored triple sec liqueur) and cranberry juice mixed with champagne.
  • Classic – Angostura Bitters (a concentrated bitters flavored with herbs and spices) mixed with champagne and sweetened with granulated sugar. This is often also served with brandy and a maraschino cherry, so feel free to add those, if desired!
Pro tip
Have fun with some garnishes! Garnish your cocktails with raspberries, strawberries, orange slices, Maraschino cherries, or lemon and orange peels!

How to make

The order of assembly varies depending on which variation you’re making, but here’s a brief overview!

  1. If you’re sweetening with sugar, pour that into your glass.
  2. If you’re using other liquors (ex: chambord), measure those into your champagne flute.
  3. Fill the glass with champagne.
  4. Finish off with fruit juice (if using) and garnishes!

Poinsettia champagne cocktail

What champagne to use

You can spend as much or as little as you want on champagne. I usually spend between $10 and $20 a bottle.

The type of champagne you use depends on your personal tastes! “Brut” champagnes are less sweet, “sec” are moderately sweet, and “doux” are sweetest.

Some people like dryer, more brut champagnes while others prefer sweeter, wetter, doux champagnes.

Ultimately, how much money and the type of champagne you choose is up to you!

Pro tip
If you’re hosting a party, have a few different kinds of champagnes available so your guests can pick their favorite!

Tips and tricks

  • Pick a good champagne. The champagne is obviously a big part of this recipe. Get something you enjoy drinking.
  • Keep your ingredients chilled.
  • Use fresh fruit and juices. Don’t use the concentrated cranberry cocktail type “juices”, because those have unnecessary added sweeteners.
  • Use champagne flutes. Champagne flutes are specifically designed to preserve carbonation.
  • Chill your flutes. Keep your champagne flutes in the refrigerator or stick them in the freezer for a few minutes before pouring the drinks so they stay cold longer.
  • Don’t stir. Stirring kills the bubbles. Don’t do it! The carbonation helps the drink mix itself.
Pro tip
Keep the champagne in the fridge until the last minute so it’s extra fresh and bubbly!

Mimosa champagne cocktail

How to serve

Serve your champagne cocktails in champagne flutes! Not only do they look amazing, but they’re designed to preserve carbonation. If you don’t have champagne flutes, use wine glasses!

Traditionally champagne cocktails are served straight up (without ice), so I like to chill my ingredients and serve my champagne cocktails without ice, but you can also serve them on the rocks if desired.

Pro tip
If you’re hosting a party, set up a DIY champagne cocktail bar with different ingredients and garnishes and let your guests make their own!

Pairing suggestions

These champagne cocktails are perfect for serving at New Year’s Eve parties. I love serving them with some delicious appetizers. Here are some of my favorites!

How to store

These champagne cocktails are DEFINITELY best served right away. As they sit, the champagne bubbles will flatten and the drink won’t be nearly as good.

If you have leftover champagne, put a bubble stopper in the bottle immediately and place it in the fridge. Leftover juices and garnishes can be stored in separate containers in the fridge.

Pro tip
I recommend waiting to the very last minute to open and pour your champagne so that the drink is as fresh as possible!

Cheers, drink responsibly, and Happy New Year!

The Devil’s Margarita is the perfect drink to serve at your next Halloween party. It’s a little sweet, a little tart, and a little spooky.

Devils margarita from side

Ingredients

You probably have most of the ingredients (there are only four) on hand and it takes 2.5 seconds to make. Make it for one, or make it for a crowd for your next Halloween Party!

  • Tequila – can’t have a margarita without tequila! Use your favorite variety. Blanco, anejo, or reposado would all be great!
  • Lime Juice – adds that classic, citrusy margarita flavor.
  • Simple Syrup – a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar boiled into a syrup and used as a sweetener. Want it less sweet? Use a 2:1 water to sugar ratio to make your syrup.
  • Red Wine – poured on the very surface of the margarita giving it the layered look. I use Cabernet, because that’s what we always have on hand, but feel free to use your favorite!
Pro tip
You can use any margarita recipe as a base! We LOVE this easy margarita recipe.

A little sweet, a little tart, and a whole lot of yummy. All you need is lime, sugar, tequila and red wine! The Devil's Margarita is great for one, or even a crowd. Perfect to serve at your next Halloween Party! www.showmetheyummy.com #margarita #cocktail #halloween #redwine #happyhour #lime #tequila #simplesyrup

How to make

Are you ready for the easiest, tastiest, most festive Halloween drink ever?

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice then add in tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup.
  2. Shake until chilled and pour into glass of choice.
  3. Set a spoon at a 45º angle placed barely inside the margarita mixture with the back of the spoon facing up towards the ceiling.
  4. Pinch the top of the wine bottle with your finger and slowly pour the red wine over the back of the spoon so it drizzles on the surface of the margarita. Pour until there’s about 1/4 inch later of red wine.
  5. Serve and enjoy!
Pro tip
Tequila is heavier than wine, which is why the wine is able to float on top! Practice makes perfect, so be sure to whip up a few before serving these at your next party.

How to make simple syrup

Simple syrup could not be any easier to make. Two ingredients and a microwave and you’re ready to go!

  1. Mix equal parts water and sugar (ex: 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar) together in a microwave safe bowl.
  2. Heat until the sugar is completely dissolved!

That’s it! So easy, I know! If you’d like a less sweet syrup, feel free to make a simple syrup with a 2:1 water to sugar ratio (ex: 2 cups water and 1 cup sugar).

Pro tip
Leftover simple syrup can be stored in the fridge for weeks so make a little extra to just have on-hand! It’s delicious in cocktails or even coffee!

How to layer

Giving your margarita that cool layered look is a lot easier than it seems.

  1. Dip a spoon barely in the surface of the margarita.
  2. Hold it at a 45º angle, and pour your red wine slowly over the top until the red layer is about 1/4-inch thick.

It may take a little bit of practice to get it just right, but don’t worry. Even if you mess up, the drink still tastes good so you don’t have to waste a drop. 😉

How to make a pitcher

To make a pitcher of the devil’s margarita, I recommend mixing up the margarita portion of the drink (again, feel free to make YOUR favorite margarita as a base if you prefer). You won’t be able to layer on the red wine and then pour into individual glasses with the same effect. Instead, add the wine layer just before you’re ready to serve in single cups!

For a pitcher, I usually multiply everything by eight!

  • 12 ounces tequila
  • 6 ounces lime juice
  • 6 ounces simple syrup

Combine all of these ingredients in a large pitcher, then stir well with a wooden spoon or whisk! Store in the fridge until ready to pour, float, and serve!

Tips

  • Chill your glasses. Put the glasses you’re using in the freezer for a few minutes before you make the margaritas. This keeps the drinks colder for longer.
  • Use a spoon. The spoon helps layer the wine on perfectly so it sits just on the surface of the margarita.
  • Don’t stir. Stirring will mess up the layering.
  • Customize it. The best thing about making your own drinks is you can mess around with ratios. Like a stronger drink? Use more tequila. Prefer it sweeter? Add more simple syrup. It’s all up to you!

What to serve with a devil’s margarita

These margaritas are the perfect drink to serve at a Halloween party! Here are some apps and desserts to serve alongside this delicious drink!

How to store

Since this drink takes 5 minutes, I recommend assembling it right before you’re ready to serve. That’s way it’s super chilled, very fresh, and layered perfectly!

How to Make a Milkshake: 3 Simple Steps and 10 Minutes for the perfect thick and creamy milkshake! Try vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, mint Oreo, and more!

four milkshakes in cups

Ice cream has been and will forever be one of my favorite desserts. Whatever the season, it’s highly likely you’ll find me sitting with a bowl of ice cream.

Trevor is also an ice cream lover, but while I go for a blizzard or sundae, Trevor is allll about those milkshakes. But not just any milkshake, they need to be ultra thick and creamy! So, today, we’re talkin’ how to make the PERFECT, the BEST homemade milkshakes!

Ingredients

One of the best parts about homemade milkshakes is you get to customize it just for you! Mix and match flavors, stir in any of your favorite candies, load it up with whipped cream…anything goes!

  • Ice Cream – use your favorite brand and flavor! Go for full-fat for the creamiest texture. Today, we’re using use vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, and mint Oreo.
  • Milk – whatever you have on hand, but the higher the fat content, the creamier the shake will be. I use 2% “plain”, strawberry, and chocolate milk today.
  • Syrup or Sauce – this is our flavor booster! Try caramel, strawberry jam, hot fudge, peanut butter, and more!
  • Optional: Mix-Ins – any mix-ins will work! Try your favorite candies, cookies, nuts, you name it!
  • Toppings – anything goes! Use whipped cream, crushed nuts, sprinkles, cherries, etc!
Pro tip
Go for the good stuff if you can! Artisanal ice cream may be more expensive, but there’s good reason for it . . . you can’t beat the taste and texture! They use higher quality ingredients and make smaller batches which results in creamier ice cream and better flavor.

How to make

Just 10 minutes to the perfect milkshake! Heck yes!

  1. Place ice cream, milk, and syrup of choice into a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.
  2. If using mix-ins, pulse in until just combined.
  3. Pour into glasses then top with garnishes. Serve and enjoy!
Pro tip
Let your ice cream soften for 10 minutes before blending. This allows you to use less milk, which results in a thicker milkshake!

chocolate milkshake in cup

Variations

Here are the four variations I made today…and they’re SO GOOD! If these aren’t your jam, feel free to play around with other flavors. You really can’t go wrong!

  • Vanilla – vanilla ice cream, milk, and caramel topping.
  • Strawberry – strawberry ice cream, strawberry milk, and strawberry jam.
  • Chocolate – chocolate ice cream, chocolate milk, and hot fudge sauce.
  • Mint Oreo – mint oreo ice cream, milk, hot fudge sauce, and Oreos.
Pro tip
Have some whipped cream, sprinkles, and maraschino cherries on-hand. They make the perfect finishing touch for any milkshake!

vanilla milkshake in cup

How to thicken

Just add more ice cream! The more ice cream there is in relation to the milk content, the thicker the milkshake will be. If you need to add more ice cream to thicken, feel free to add in more sauce, syrups, or mix-ins to flavor, if necessary.

Pro tip
Start with less milk and add more as needed. This should avoid having to add more ice cream later.

Can you make a milkshake without a blender?

A high powered blender is going to be your best bet for making a milkshake – you just can’t beat the consistency the blender achieves.

However, if you don’t have a blender available to you, you can try making it in a food processor or a stand mixer:

  • Food processor: place ice cream, milk, and syrup of choice into food processor and process until smooth. Pulse in mix-ins, if using.
  • Stand mixer: beat ice cream on medium speed until ice cream is creamy. Add milk, sauces, and optional mix-ins and beat on low speed until thoroughly combined.

Tips

  • Use good ice cream. This might go without saying, but ice cream is the base for the milkshake so make sure you’re using the good stuff!
  • Use full-fat ice cream. Light ice creams will also work but full-fat ice cream will make your milkshake extra creamy.
  • Use fall-fat milk. Or half-and-half or heavy cream! The higher the fat content, the creamier the shake.
  • Use slightly softened ice cream. This allows you to use less milk, which creates a thicker milkshake.
  • Less is more. Start with very little milk and add more as needed. Too much milk and your shake will be runny.
  • Use flavored milk. Example: using strawberry milk in the strawberry milkshake keeps the strawberry flavor strong, instead of diluting the flavor with “plain” milk.
  • Pulse in your mix-ins. You want the milkshake to be creamy with larger chunks of mix-ins. If you blend in the mix-ins instead of pulse them in, they may become too small and make the milkshake gritty instead of creamy.
  • Chill your glasses. Stick your cups in the freezer for a few minutes before serving up your milkshakes. This prevents the milkshake from starting to melt as soon as it hits the cup.
  • Serve right away. It’s thicker and creamier that way!

Other flavor ideas

Although I LOVE all of the variations in this recipe, there are SO MANY ways to make a milkshake. Here are some other flavor combination ideas!

  • Mocha. Coffee ice cream, coffee (instead of milk), hot fudge sauce, and chocolate covered espresso beans.
  • S’mores. Vanilla or chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce, graham cracker crumbs, and mini marshmallows.
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Vanilla ice cream, vanilla extract, and cookie dough.
  • Peanut Butter Cup. Vanilla or chocolate ice cream, peanut butter, and mini peanut butter cups.

Like I said, pretty much anything goes! You can’t go wrong with an ice cream-based recipe, right? 😉

highly recommend serving your milkshake right away for that perfectly creamy and delicious texture.

I am absolutely obsessed with this smoothie. Give it to me for breakfast, my mid-afternoon snack, or as a sweet treat after dinner. It’s full of good for you ingredients, and thanks to frozen bananas, peanut butter, and chocolate protein powder – it tastes like a creamy milkshake!

Ingredients

This peanut butter banana smoothie is made with ingredients you probably already have on hand!

  • Bananas – use super ripe, then frozen bananas for the sweetest flavor and creamiest texture!
  • Chocolate Protein Powder – use your favorite brand! Adds a touch more sweetness, ultra chocolate-y flavor, and tons of protein.
  • Peanut Butter –  use an all-natural peanut butter (just nuts or just nuts + salt) to keep the smoothie as healthy as possible.
  • Milk – use whatever you have on hand. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk to keep this dairy free.
  • Vanilla Extract and Ground Cinnamon – super simple additions that both add a little somethin’ somethin’ extra.
  • Ice – helps thicken the smoothie.

I like to top my smoothie off with another drizzle of peanut butter, a sprinkle of crushed peanuts, and a few chocolate chips!

Pro tip
I use the chocolate Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder to keep this smoothie vegan, but feel free to use your favorite whey protein if you prefer!

How to make

I love smoothies because they’re SO EASY . . . this peanut butter banana smoothie is no exception!

  1. Place all of your ingredients together in your blender.
  2. Blend until smooth then serve with optional garnishes and enjoy!
Pro tip
Start with less milk and add more as needed. I like my smoothies very thick, so I can eat them with a spoon, but feel free to add as much milk as you like!

peanut butter banana smoothie held

Do you need to freeze the bananas?

I highly recommend freezing your bananas. Since the banana is the only fruit in this recipe, there isn’t any opportunity to use other frozen fruit to chill and thicken the smoothie. The frozen banana makes the smoothie very thick and creamy. Trust me, it’s worth planning ahead!

If you absolutely can’t use frozen bananas, use fresh, but then you’ll need to add additional ice to compensate. The results will likely be much more watery.

What peanut butter to use?

Use an all-natural peanut butter – the ingredient list should just be “peanuts” or “peanuts and salt” to keep this smoothie super healthy. Other nut butters like almond or cashew will work as well.

If you prefer more processed varieties, those will work as well.

Pro tip
Oil separation is common in all natural nut butters, so be sure to stir thoroughly before adding it into the smoothie.

How to thicken

There are a few ways to thicken a smoothie:

  1. Use frozen fruit. In this case the banana! Frozen fruit, particularly banana, makes the smoothie thick without watering it down.
  2. Add in a handful of ice. Add more or less, to taste. Adding more ice creates a thicker smoothie, but also creates an “icier” texture vs creamy.
  3. Reduce the liquid. I recommend starting with less and adding more as needed!
  4. Throw in some add ins. If the smoothie still isn’t thickened to your liking, try adding a spoonful of ground flax seed or a handful of oats.

Can you add more fruit?

You can definitely add more fruit if desired, but it will affect the overall flavor of the smoothie.

Strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries would be delicious! Keep in mind you may then have to add a touch more milk so it’s not way too thick.

glass of peanut butter banana smoothie above

Variations

I absolutely love this peanut butter banana smoothie as-is but if you want to switch things up, here are some possible additions/variations.

  • Seeds. Add flax or chia seeds (or both) for a boost of nutrition.
  • Yogurt. Mix in a couple spoonfuls of vanilla Greek yogurt or a vegan alternative to make the smoothie even creamier.
  • Veggies. Try adding spinach, kale, or even frozen cauliflower.
  • Sweetener. If I’m craving an even sweeter smoothie, I like adding a touch of maple syrup or honey.
  • Make it nut free. Use sunflower seed butter and soy milk (or your favorite milk) for a nut free alternative.
  • Almond Butter. If peanut butter isn’t your thing, almond butter (or any nut butter) will work as well.

How to store

This smoothie only takes 5 minutes from start to finish, I recommend assembling it right before you’re ready to enjoy. I don’t recommend making this is advance.

This Mimosa recipe is as easy as it gets. Two ingredients and two minutes for the perfect bubbly brunch cocktail!

two mimosa glasses on table

Trevor and I are big mimosa fans. I mean, who doesn’t love a sweet, bubbly, and refreshing drink to go with Sunday brunch? They’re SO easy to make and all you need is champagne and orange juice! Wins all around!

What is a mimosa?

A mimosa is a type of cocktail—typically served during brunch—made up of champagne and citrus juice.

Mimosas originated in Spain but are now consumed all over the world…like Raleigh, NC…every Sunday…for example. 😉

What’s in a mimosa?

A classic mimosa is made up of champagne and orange juice!

However, there are tons of mimosa variations too! Have fun with the type of bubbly you’re using and play around with different juices if orange isn’t your thing. You can absolutely whip one up using your favorite fruit juice: grapefruit, peach, watermelon, apple, you name it!

Ingredients

  • Champagne – champagnes range from sweet to “brut” which is dry. We tend to use more brut champagnes because the dryness pairs well with the sweetness from the juice but if you prefer a little extra sweetness feel free to use something sweeter like prosecco or sparkling wine!
  • Orange Juice – I use no-pulp Simply Orange juice, because I’m not a fan of pulp, but, again, use whatever you like the best. That could be a different brand, juice with pulp, or even freshly squeezed juice!
Pro tip
Make a mimosa bar! Set out different kinds of bubbly and juices and have people make their own creations!

How to make

  1. Pour champagne into your glass about 3/4ths of the way up.
  2. Top with orange juice then serve and enjoy!

How to make big batch mimosas

If you’re hosting a brunch and serving mimosas to a lot of people, I recommend setting up a mimosa bar rather than trying to make a mimosa pitcher. Provide various juices, garnishes, and alcohol options so your guests customize their own drinks!

It’s easier for you AND keeps the champagne or sparkling wine nice and bubbly.

Mimosa ratios

My rule of thumb is 3 parts champagne to 1 part orange juice, but adjust the ratio to whatever you like best!

The great thing about homemade cocktails is they’re totally customizable. Want more champagne? Add more! Want a less boozy cocktail? Add more juice!

Pro tip
Start with less alcohol and add more to taste!

How much alcohol is in a mimosa?

Champagne typically has about 12% alcohol – one serving is 6 oz. Traditionally, a mimosa is three parts champagne (about 4.5 oz) to one part orange juice (1.5 oz) but this is totally up to you! Prefer a stronger drink? Add more champagne. Like it sweeter? Lessen the amount of alcohol and add more juice.

What is a good champagne for mimosas?

This is another one of those “you decide” moments but typically mimosas are made using a dryer or more “brut” champagne to offset the sweetness of the juice!

Tips and tricks

This recipe is so easy and so delicious but here are some of the things I do to make sure my mimosa is at its ultimate freshness!

  • Chill your ingredients. Warm mimosas aren’t quite as refreshing. Trust me. 😉
  • Chill your glasses. This keeps the drinks colder for longer.
  • Add your champagne first. Pour your champagne first, then top it off with juice. This prevents the bubbles from spilling over the sides of the glass.
  • Use champagne flutes. Champagne flutes are designed to preserve carbonation so if you have them, use them! If you don’t have champagne flutes, wine glasses will work as well.
  • Tilt your glass when pouring. This also helps preserve carbonation. The bubblier, the better!
  • Don’t stir. The bubbles in the champagne help the drink mix itself. Avoid stirring the drink or you’ll flatten the drink.

Mimosa variations

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…making your own cocktails is the way to go because you get to customize it just for you! There are so many fun ways to make mimosas so I love to play around with flavors, ratios, etc.

  • Use a different juice. Cranberry, pineapple, pomegranate, blood orange, grapefruit, peach, apple, watermelon, pear, you name it!
  • Add liqueur.  Mix in a splash of orange liqueur, vodka, etc. for an extra kick.
  • Add fruit puree. Put a dash of fresh fruit puree in the bottom of your champagne flute before adding your liquids for some extra flavor.
  • Make it non-alcoholic. Try using a non-alcoholic sparkling juice or even a flavored sparkling water for a fun mimosa mocktail.

How to serve mimosas

Classic mimosas are served in chilled champagne flutes for ultimate freshness! The champagne flutes help preserve bubbles and, if they’re chilled before you pour your drink, they keep the drink cooler longer too!

I love to serve mine up plain or garnished with orange wedges and/or other fresh fruit. They’re good no matter what, let’s be honest. 😉

What to serve with mimosas

Pretty much any brunch food is just THAT much better with a mimosa in hand. 😉 Here are some of my favorites!

See all my breakfast recipes!

How to store

I don’t recommend making mimosas ahead of time. Because they’re so easy to whip up, you’re better off making them right before you’re ready to drink. That way they’re super cool, super fresh, super carbonated, and super delicious!

This is the best strawberry banana smoothie recipe EVER. It’s made with only four ingredients and takes only 5 minutes. I could really eat this every day…I’m not kidding. 😉

Ingredients

Yep, you’re seeing that right. Just four ingredients for this healthy and delicious strawberry banana smoothie!

  • Strawberries – use frozen strawberries for best results.
  • Banana – use a super ripe banana for ultimate sweetness.
  • Milk – use your favorite type of milk. I used almond, because I always have it on hand.
  • Vanilla Extract – adds depth of flavor and warmth.
Pro tip
Want to make this even creamier with a tropical twist? Use full fat canned coconut milk!

How to make

  1. Combine all ingredients in your Vitamix.
  2. Blend until smooth then serve and enjoy!
Pro tip
If you prefer a thicker smoothie, add more frozen strawberries. If you prefer a thinner smoothie, add a touch more milk!

How do you make a smoothie thicker?

The key to a thick smoothie is to use frozen fruit and a high powered blender (requires less liquid). We’re already using frozen strawberries, but feel free to also pre-freeze your banana and use that.

If your smoothie still isn’t thick enough try adding in more frozen fruit, a scoop of Greek yogurt, protein powder, and/or rolled oats.

Do you put water or milk in smoothies?

I highly recommend using milk instead of water in smoothies. Using milk creates a creamier texture and bonus: there are added nutritional benefits!

I definitely prefer to use milk in my smoothies. Water makes smoothies too…well…watery. 😉

Do you put ice in a smoothie?

You don’t have to especially if you’re using frozen fruit. However, ice can help thicken the smoothie so feel free to add a couple of cubes if desired. Be careful to not add too many or you’ll dilute the flavor. I’d recommend adding in more frozen fruit over ice cubes, if possible.

Pro tip
Pour some milk into ice cube trays and freeze that so you don’t compromise the flavor of the smoothie.

Can you add spinach to a strawberry banana smoothie?

You can definitely toss in a handful of fresh spinach to get some greens in. Personally, I always add in spinach to my smoothies, because you can’t taste it and I love the added nutrients!

Warning: the smoothie won’t be quite as pretty. 😉

strawberry banana smoothie held

Tips

  • Start with less milk. Add more as needed until the smoothie has reached your desired consistency.
  • Use frozen fruit. Or at least frozen strawberries. Using fresh fruit won’t get the same result.
  • Use a high-powered blender. I love my Vitamix.
  • Serve immediately. Smoothies are best right away. Wait too long and it will start to melt.

Variations

I love a four-ingredient smoothie recipe but if you’re looking for a little something extra here are some ideas!

  • Give it a nutrition boost. Toss in some chia or flax seeds.
  • Add protein. Vanilla protein powder is a delicious addition.
  • Add peanut butter. You can’t go wrong with a scoop of your favorite peanut (or any nut) butter. 😉
  • Make it a green smoothie. Mix in a handful of fresh spinach. Keep in mind the color won’t be quite as pretty.
  • Sweeten it up. Drizzle in some agave, honey, or pure maple syrup.
  • Make it a bowl. Serve it in a bowl topped with granola, sliced almonds, and fresh fruit slices. Or check out my homemade acai bowls!
  • Make it creamier. Blend in a scoop of greek yogurt or use full fat canned coconut milk.

Can You make this smoothie ahead of time?

I don’t recommend making your smoothie ahead of time. Smoothies melt as they sit in the fridge and their consistency isn’t the same if re-frozen.

For best results enjoy your smoothie right away!

Strawberry banana isn’t your thing? Try my mango smoothie, tropical smoothie, or chocolate berry green protein smoothie!

mojito in a jar with lime, mint, and straw side view

Warm weather calls for cool, fresh, light, and delicious cocktails. And that’s just what this mojito is! The perfect way to enjoy a hot Summer day. 🙂

PSST – whether you’re wanting a pitcher for a crowd or a single serving for yourself, we’ve got you covered!

What is a mojito?

A mojito is a classic Cuban cocktail made with white rum, sweetener, lime, mint, and club soda. Served “on the rocks” aka over ice in a tall highball glass.

It’s super simple, super fresh, and super yummy!

Ingredients

Just 5 ingredients needed for the most refreshing cocktail.

  • Fresh Mint Leaves – muddled to release flavor; extra for garnish!
  • Lime Juice – use freshly squeezed for the best flavor. Bottled lime juice will work in a pinch.
  • Simple Syrup – a quick and easy sweetener made with granulated sugar and water. See how to make simple syrup for instructions!
  • Rum – white rum is light and sweet in taste, making it perfect for this delicate cocktail. Do NOT use dark rum.
  • Club Soda – for topping. Adds carbonation and extra freshness.
Pro tip
Want a twist on a classic? Try swapping the club soda for your favorite flavored sparkling water!

How to make

This cocktail takes just 5 minutes…and it’s so worth it!

  1. Muddle your mint in a mason jar or your favorite tall drinking glass.
  2. Add in lime juice, simple syrup, and rum then stir to combine.
  3. Top with club soda and enjoy!

How to make simple syrup

Simple syrup couldn’t be easier to make. You can make it on the stove or even in the microwave.

How to make simple syrup on the stove: place granulated sugar and water into a saucepan then simmer until the sugar has dissolved, about 5-10 minutes, stirring regularly.

How to make simple syrup in the microwave: place granulated sugar and water into a microwave safe measuring cup and heat until the sugar has dissolved, about 2-3 minutes.

Either way, cool the mixture completely, then transfer it to a mason jar or bottle and store it in the fridge until ready to use! Simple syrup lasts for quite some time in the fridge so feel free to make extra to have around!

Pro tip
Typically, simple syrup is made with a 1:1 or a 2:1 water to sugar ratio. For example, 1 cup water + 1 cup sugar (1:1) OR 1 cup water + 1/2 cup sugar (2:1). The latter is less sweet –  the choice is up to you. Trevor prefers a 1: 1 ratio for his cocktails, but I prefer a less sweet 2:1.

mojito jar held

What liquor to use

An authentic mojito uses white rum. The sweeter, lighter, more subtle flavor pairs perfectly with the freshness of the lime and mint. Don’t use a dark spiced rum because the bolder flavor takes away from the delicate nature of the mint.

Pro tip
Splurge on a higher-quality rum. Since it’s the only liquor in the drink, it’s worth the extra cost!

How to make a pitcher of mojitos

The recipe listed below is for a single cocktail, but if you’re hosting a party, it’s super easy to multiply the recipe to make more drinks at once!

Use these numbers to make a pitcher:

  • 60 fresh mint leaves
  • 6 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 6 ounces simple syrup
  • 12 ounces white rum

Muddle the mint, then mix the above ingredients together in the pitcher. Store in the fridge until you’re ready to use. When you’re ready to serve, fill glasses with ice, fill with the mojito mixture, then top each glass with club soda. This ensures that each drink is perfectly bubbly and isn’t watered down!

mojito held, brown background

Variations

Want some other flavors? Try out my blueberry peach mojito or this sparkling watermelon mojito recipe! Here are some other variations to try out:

  • Make it fruity. Muddle in pineapple, berries, orange, mango, or watermelon.
  • Cucumber-Mint. Add another layer of freshness with some muddled cucumber.
  • Spicy Mojito. Mix some fresh jalapeño in with the fresh mint.
  • Blend it up. Make a frozen mojito by throwing everything in a blender with some ice.
  • Coconut. Give it a tropical twist with a splash of coconut milk or coconut water.
  • Pomegranate. Try muddling in some pomegranate seeds and topping it off with a splash of pomegranate juice.

You can even try mixing and matching flavors and variations. Pineapple-coconut, spicy mango, coconut strawberry, etc! Get creative!

How to store

This mojito is best served right away for ultimate freshness. It takes just 5 minutes to throw together so I highly recommend making it right before you’re ready to drink!

Cheers! As always, please drink responsibly!

This Easy Mango Smoothie Recipe is fresh, super creamy, fruity, and delicious! Just 5 ingredients and 5 minutes necessary!

Mango smoothie in two cups

When I developed this recipe, I had every intention of making a mango sorbet, but I ended up with something so much better…this easy mango smoothie!

It has 5 ingredients, takes 5 minutes to make, and will take you no more than 5 minutes to suck down. 😉 It’s creamy, luxurious, and deliciously fruity!

Ingredients

This smoothie is all about balance. It’s loaded with healthy ingredients like greek yogurt and mango, but also does use a bit of sugar.

  • Greek Yogurt –  nonfat, plain Greek yogurt makes this smoothie extra creamy. Feel free to use a vanilla yogurt if you’d like to reduce the amount of added sugar. You could even use a coconut plant based yogurt to make this vegan.
  • Frozen Mango – earthy, creamy, and loaded with vitamins, mineral and antioxidants!
  • Vanilla – adds a warmth and depth of flavor to this smoothie.
  • Lemon Juice – brightens up the earthy mango.
  • Sugar – helps balance out the tartness of the greek yogurt and brings out the sweetness in the mango.
Pro tip
Want to make this smoothie healthier? You have a few options: reduce the amount of sugar in half and/or use an all natural sweetener like agave, honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar instead!

How to make

This smoothie takes just 5 minutes to whip up! So easy and so fresh!

  1. Place all of your ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth then serve and enjoy!
Pro tip
Can’t find frozen mango? Wash and cut fresh mango then store in the freezer for later. Most fresh fruit will last up to 6 months if frozen properly!

How to make smoothies creamy

  • Use frozen fruit. When blended, frozen fruit creates a creamier texture than non-frozen fruit. Frozen fruit also removes the need for ice, which waters down a smoothie and can give it an icy texture vs a creamy one!
  • Use Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is thicker and creamier than regular yogurt so I definitely recommend using it in this recipe to make it ultra thick and creamy.
  • Use a high-powered blender. High-powered blenders, like a Vitamix, blend ingredients together better than others making smoothies even creamier.

Can you use fresh mango?

You can but frozen mango makes this smoothie recipe extra creamy. If you’re slicing your own mango, I recommend slicing it ahead of time then freezing it before using.

If you don’t have time to freeze your fresh mango, you can try adding some ice into the smoothie but it will affect the taste and texture.

Can you use regular yogurt instead of greek yogurt?

You can, but Greek yogurt is thicker and creamier than regular yogurt. Bonus, it’s also higher in protein!

Can this be made vegan?

You can easily make this smoothie vegan. Simply sub the Greek yogurt for a vegan variety like coconut yogurt.

Variations

  • Give it a nutrition boost. Try blending in flax or chia seeds or a few handfuls of spinach.
  • Up the protein. Blend in your favorite vanilla protein powder.
  • Add banana. Blend in some frozen banana slices. Bonus: this adds to the creaminess!
  • Play with flavors. Try strawberry mango, raspberry mango, blueberry mango, or pineapple mango, etc. with some frozen fruit additions.
  • Thin it out. Add a liquid like coconut milk, mango nectar, or pineapple juice.
  • Add matcha. Sprinkle in a couple teaspoons of matcha powder for a healthier, antioxidant-packed smoothie.

How to store

This smoothie is best served right away for it to be enjoyed at its creamiest. However, leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 days or in the freezer for a week.

Re-blend or mix when you’re ready to eat!

We can’t go to the beach right now, so let’s bring the beach home with this easy, creamy, nutrient dense tropical smoothie!

Creamy coconut milk blended with mango, pineapple, and banana . . . this drink literally tastes like vacation. So close your eyes, sip, take a deep breath . . . and pretend you’re tanning at the beach.

Ingredients

Just FOUR ingredients for a super fresh snack!

  • Frozen Mango – the classic tropical fruit. Mango adds an amazing fruity, tropical, earthy flavor.
  • Frozen Pineapple – SO sweet and creamy. The combination of pineapple and coconut milk screams sipping pina coladas on vacation!
  • Frozen Banana – makes the smoothie incredibly rich and creamy.
  • Coconut Milk – use canned coconut milk, not coconut milk from a carton. It’s richer and creamier. Use full-fat canned coconut milk for an even creamier texture.
  • Spinach (optional) – a nutrient power house. I love adding it in for the health benefits, and I promise you can’t taste it, but the color might not be that appetizing (ahem, it turns the smoothie green/brown).
Pro tip
Can’t find frozen fruit? Wash, cut, and freeze fresh in-season produce for later! Most fruits last about 6 months if frozen properly.

How to make

Pro tip
If you don’t have a high powered blender, like a Vitamix, you may need to add in additional liquid.

What liquid does a tropical smoothie use?

Canned coconut milk – full fat or light – is used for this tropical smoothie recipe. I love the creamy consistency and strong coconut flavor it gives the smoothie! If you’re looking to cut a few calories or don’t have canned coconut milk on hand, here are some other options:

  • Almond milk or other non-dairy milk alternative
  • Coconut water
  • Mango nectar
  • Orange juice
  • Pineapple juice

I prefer canned coconut milk over juice to keep the sugar a bit lower, but use whatever you have on hand. I don’t recommend using water, because it dilutes the flavor of the fruit.

Are tropical smoothies healthy?

This tropical smoothie recipe is absolutely healthy. Both fruit and coconut milk contain tons of vitamins and nutrients. Coconut milk is also high in MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides) which are considered healthy fats! Want to add even more nutrients? Throw in a handful of spinach, or even kale!

1 smoothie (using light coconut milk) contains about 300 calories, 13 grams of fat, 43 grams of carbs, 4 grams of fiber, and 2 grams of protein.

Tips for making smoothies

To get the best tropical smoothie you can, here are a couple of tips!

  • Use a high-powered blender. I use a Vitamix, which is a very high-powered blender, to blend my smoothie so it’s super creamy and delicious. If you don’t have a very high-powered blender, that’s okay, you may just have to blend longer or add in additional liquid.
  • Use canned coconut milk. Although other liquids do work for tropical smoothie recipes, the extra fat in the canned coconut milk results in the creamiest, smoothest smoother ever. YUM!
  • Slice your banana before freezing it. If the banana is sliced before it’s frozen, it will be easier for the blender to cream the banana so there are no chunks in your end result!

recipe variations

I LOVE this smoothie just the way it is, but if you want to change it up, here are some add-in or substitution ideas!

  • Different Liquids: pineapple juice, mango nectar, coconut water.
  • Fruit Additions: kiwi, papaya, strawberries.
  • Other Add-Ins: spinach or kale, protein powder, avocado, flax or chia seeds.

Pairing Suggestions

I love to mix some toasted coconut into my tropical smoothie for a little bit of texture and flavor when having it as a snack!

If you want your tropical smoothie as part of a bulkier meal, here are some delicious recipes to pair it with.

How to Store

I don’t recommend saving this smoothie for later. It will thin out and become melty. Since it takes just 5 minutes, whip it up right before you’re ready to enjoy it!
